A multitude of young and unemployed Kenyans have attended a job interview at Eka Hotel in the capital Nairobi for only five vacant positions.

A recruitment agency had advertised for vacant positions of waiters and waitress.

But the hotel and the recruitment agency were shocked to witness a large crowd of people trooping to the venue for the job interview.

A video has been circulating on social media showing the large crowd seeking access into the hotel premises for the job interview.

The hotel was initially believed to have advertised for the vacant positions but it said in a statement that it was rather a recruitment agency.

Kenya like many African countries have issues with youth unemployment with millions idle without a job.

The hotel in a statement said the large crowd that came in for the job interview “reminds us of the joblessness of young people” in Kenya.

The hotel’s statement also claimed the vacant position was more than five although it couldn’t specify how many people were to be recruited.

Anger and disappointment

On social media the video has been trending with many Kenyans angry at the failure of the government to deal with the unemployment situation in the east African country.
