A deadly road crash in Ghana on Monday morning has claimed dozens of lives in the northern zone of the country.

The accident according to eyewitnesses occurred on the Kintampo-Tamale stretch of the highway in the Bono East region.

There have been several deadly road crashes on this same stretch of road in the past claiming hundreds of lives.

In this accident locals in the community where the accident occurred said a passenger bus had a head on collision with a sprinter in a community between Kintampo and Buipe.

Videos of the aftermath of the accident has gone viral on social media, showing the buses in flames.

It is feared at least 26 people have been burnt to death with just a few people surviving.

In 2019, over 60 people reportedly died in a road crash involving two passenger buses on the same stretch of road.

That accident also occurred after a head-on collision between the two buses on the Techiman – Kintampo road.

Ghana’s road safety officials have on several occasions launched safety campaigns to ensure that drivers avoid being reckless on the road.

In many instances drivers are either tired while driving or just reckless ignoring road signs.
