The embattled Chairperson of Malawi’s Electoral Commission Jane Ansah has resigned a month before a presidential election re- run.
The Constitutional Court overturned last year’s poll giving a second term to President Peter Mutharika.
There have been protests for Jane Ansah to step down over alleged irregularities in the electoral process including the use of correction fluid on ballot papers.
She told the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation that she was not bowing to pressure to set a bad precedence.
“I leave full of confidence. I have worked with clean hands and I have no skeletons in my cupboard.
I have fought a good fight and I am happy I have seen it to the end” she stated.
Malawians will go to the polls again for the presidential elections re-run on June 23.
Malawi’s two main opposition parties have already formed an alliance to defeat the incumbent President Peter Mutharika in upcoming fresh elections.
