Popular Nigerian actor, John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, has had his leg amputated for medical reasons, his family has said.

Family members of popular comic actor said doctors decided to sever the limb “to keep him alive”, a statement on his Instagram page reads.

“This development has been hard on us all but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality,” it reads further.

The family statement added that the actor has now undergone seven rounds of surgery, and would need more to improve on his health.

His family has also appealed to his fans to support with his medical care.

“Please we are still soliciting for support from well meaning Nigerians as this stage Daddy his is still one very delicate one and he needs all the help he can get,” the statement said.

But local media reported that some of Okafor’s medical expenses have been paid by former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
