Ghanaian organizer and broadcaster, Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum has failed in her attempt to break the record for singing for the longest hours.

Last December, her attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for singing for the longest hours sparked excitement.

Asantewaa did sing for for almost 127 hours and was awaiting the Guinness World Record team to validate her attempt and confirm whether she did break the record held by an Indian since 2012.

But on Friday many Ghanaians were thrown into a state of shock when news broke on that Asantewaa was unsuccessful.

Guinness World Record said in a statement on X that the Ghanaian failed but can give it another attempt.

“Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans,” the statement said.

Guinness World Record said evidence on Afua’s singing was already being checked before she requested for priority service.

“The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so we refunded her payment earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” it added.

Since last year the entire West Africa has been gripped in this frenzy of world record attempts.

There are already several Ghanaians planning to embark on their own world record attempts signalling 2024 could be a year of more record attempts.

Since July 2023, there have been some 355 applications from individuals in Ghana alone showing their interest to attempt several records in different categories.
