Nigeria: Four Nollywood actors die in boat accident

Four Nollywood actors including, Pope Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope have died in a boat accident.

Filmmaker, Samuel Olatunji wrote on social media that the actors lost their lives when their boat capsized on the Anam River.

“Four actors, including Jnr Pope, fell into Anam River on their way to a location, and their bodies have been recovered.

“What a sad day for Nollywood. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” Olatunji wrote on his Instagram page.

Earlier it was reported that the actor had survived when they realized movement of his hands.

But he was later confirmed to have lost his life indeed.

According to local media reporting, Junior Pope, one of the deceased was seen in a video on his Instagram page on Wednesday, on a boat without a life jacket.

He had begged the captain of the boat to go slowly as he told his followers to see how actors risk their lives to entertain them, the Punch reported.

“I have three children to raise. See me lamenting… The risk we take to entertain you; crossing river 9ja yesterday with no life jacket… Na wahoooooo… Who does that ??” he wrote.

Junior Pope had acted in more than 150 Nollywood movies and is best known for playing roles of a criminal, villain, a bodyguard and a hitman.
