As part of its activities to commemorate the 2025 Day of the African Child, Child Online Africa (COA) has donated copies of “The Silent Mountaineer”, a book authored by its Executive Director, to each of the 119 libraries across Ghana.
The donation was made to these libraries through the Ghana Library Authority.
The Day of the African Child (DAC) 2025 was commemorated under the theme “Planning and budgeting for children’s rights: progress since 2010”.
This theme underscores the critical need for sustained investment in policies, programs, and resources to safeguard the rights and well-being of African children, including their safety in the digital space.
In a statement, Child Online Africa said the decision to donate books to the Ghanaian libraries was “in alignment with this year’s theme.”
It said the donation reflects COA’s commitment to ensuring that children’s rights, particularly their safety online, remain a priority in national and community-level planning and budgeting.
“Since 2010, progress has been made in advancing children’s rights across Africa, but the digital age presents new challenges that require collective action.
Child online safety is a shared responsibility, and we call on stakeholders, including governments, private sector partners, and civil society, to invest in initiatives that protect children from online risks while empowering them to thrive in a connected world,” it said.
The book serves as a vital resource, equipping families, educators, and communities with foundational knowledge to engage in meaningful discussions on Child Online Protection (COP).
“Child Online Africa remains committed to its mission to advocate for the rights and protection of African children in the digital age.
Let us unite in making child online safety a priority, ensuring that no child is left behind in our collective pursuit of a safer, more inclusive digital future,” the organization said in the statement.
