Ghanaian asylum seeker jailed for rape in Germany

A 31-year-old Ghanaian who was arrested in Bonn, Germany for allegedly raping a woman at knife point in April this year has been convicted of rape and jailed for 11 and a half years.

Local media in Germany reported in April that the victim was raped while her boyfriend watched.

According to police the 23-year-old female and her partner were approached by the suspect who is seeking asylum, on April 2 at the Siegaue Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Bonn during a camping.

The Ghanaian asylum seeker had denied the rape, but the court in Bonn according to the dpa news agency found that DNA evidence linked him to the attack.

The Ghanaian asylum seeker was reported to be wielding machete and threatened the couple before raping the young woman near their tent.

The police were called by the victim’s boyfriend after the incident. The incident brought to the fore in Germany crimes committed by asylum seekers.
