The former vice president of Zimbabwe, Joice Mujuru and her entourage were attacked on Thursday by persons suspected to be members of the ruling Zanu PF.
Local media reported that Mujuru who is now an opposition leader was attacked with stones in Harare while traveling to a party event to address her supporters.
Her party the National People’s Party said its leader and her entourage came under the attack without any provocation.
AFP quoted an official of the NPP saying that Mujuru “was going to address a rally …she passed through a shopping centre and when people realised it was her, they came out of the shops to cheer her”.
“She got out of her car and greeted the people, and that is when Zanu-PF (activists) started throwing stones.”
10 of Mujuru’s supporters were injured in the attack.
Mujuru, was Mugabe’s vice president from 2004 until she was sacked in 2014 and later expelled her from Zanu-PF.
