107 schoolgirls who were freed by Boko Haram after their abduction in February this year have finally met the country’s president in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
Friday’s meeting was to enable the school girls interact with Muhammadu Buhari who has vowed to ensure that the remaining girls still in captivity are released.
“This cheering and hearty development signifies our commitment to the security and well-being of all Nigerians,” Buhari said after posing for a group photograph with the girls.
The Nigerian government confirmed on Wednesday that most of the schoolgirls abducted on February 19 have been released.
The girls were kidnapped from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College from the Nigerian town of Dapchi in Yobe state.
The Buhari government was criticized for how it has handled the issue and its response to getting the girls rescued.
Boko Haram abduction of school girls from Chibok received worldwide condemnation and campaigns for their release. Some of the over 200 Chibok girls kidnapped have been released and rescued.
