SA Presidency website suffers hacking attack

The website of South Africa’s presidency, (thepresidency.gov.za) suffered a hacking attack on Saturday.

News24 reports that the hackers were unknown. The managers of the site then took of the site briefly before restoring it.

Users trying to access the site were greeted with the message “Hacked by Black Team. Sahara is Moroccan. And Morocco is ur Lord! (sic)

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Khusela Diko told News24 that “We can confirm interference with the Presidency website. Our technicians are currently investigating the incident.”

Officials did not know those behind the hacking. The site is however up and running.

Thepresidency.gov.za and gov.za  are the official sites for various South Africa’s government departments. They have in the past been targets of attack from hackers.

Other notable websites have also been targets in the past in South Africa.
