Some of the leading contenders for the PDP presidential slot defected from the ruling All Peoples Congress. They accused the President of non-performance.

The winner of the PDP primary is likely to be a person who comes from the Muslim-majority North.

The PDP has an unwritten convention that allows for the party to rotate the presidency every two terms between the north and south.

Police in the Rivers State say officers will be deployed to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, venue of the presidential primary, and other strategic locations and flash points.
