Liberia’s President, George Weah has been forced out of his own office by snakes.
Front Page Africa has reported that this week snakes were found in the foreign affairs ministry building, where the president’s office is based.
To ensure that the snakes are not in other offices including that of the President, staff have been asked to stay away until April 22.
The absence of the staff including President Weah will make way for proper fumigation exercise to clear the snakes and any other dangerous creature.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been serving as the office of the president following a fire outbreak in 2006 that destroyed the presidential mansion.
President Weah is now working from his private residence until the situation is resolved.
Press secretary Smith Toby is quoted by the BBC as saying that “It’s just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building.”
He explained that “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the office of the president, so it did an internal memo asking the staff to stay home while they do the fumigation.”
“The snakes were never killed,” Mr Toby said adding that “There was a little hole somewhere [through which] they made their way back.”
The Press secretary has however promised that President Weah will be returning to his office soon.
