A Tunisian lawmaker is facing charges after he was caught on video masturbating near a school.

Zouheir Makhlouf appeared in court on Monday over the alleged act, after a woman filmed him.

A video of the MP has gone viral sparking outrage from women who have sharing their stories of sexual harassment with the hashtag #EnaZeda – or #MeToo in Tunisian dialect.

Zouheir Makhlouf, won a seat in Tunisia’s October 6 general election to represent Nabeul, a coastal town 60 kilometres (37 miles) from the capital Tunis.

Makhlouf belongs to the Qalb Tounes party headed by media tycoon Nabil Karoui, who lost the presidential runoff.

Court spokesman Karim Boulila is quoted by a radio station, Express FM radio saying the MP is being investigated for “sexual harassment and moral injury“.

“He is at the Nabeul tribunal, where he is testifying before a judge,” Boulila said.

On Twitter, the MP claimed he is diabetic and was only urinating into a bottle, as seen in the video.

His party, Qalb Tounes has now opened an internal probe, while calling on Tunisians to “avoid any defamation campaign … without proof.”
