Pressure continues to mount on Mr. Yahya Jammeh to give up power with some African governments announcing that they will no longer recognize him since his tenure has ended.
Already the Government of Botswana has announced in a statement that ‘‘Mr. Jammeh’s decision not to respect the will of the Gambian people undermines the ongoing efforts to consolidate democracy and good governance in The Gambia and Africa as a whole”.
The Botswana government further stated that Mr. Jammeh’s action “is also in direct contravention of the spirit and aspirations of the African Union Constitutive Act’‘.
Botswana now becomes the first country south of the Continent to sever ties with the Gambia under Yahya Jammeh.

The president elect of the Gambia, Adama Barrow will be sworn in as leader of the West African country in neighboring Senegal.
In a massage on his twitter page, Mr. Barrow said “I would like to inform you that the inauguration ceremony is going to take place at the Gambian Embassy in Dakar, Senegal”.
A standby ECOWAS troop is ready to enter the Gambia after Mr. Jammeh refused to vacate his office even though his tenure has expired.
The army chief of the Gambia has stated that his soldiers are not going to fight troops coming from neighboring Senegal should they enter the country.
