Ghanaian asylum seeker in Germany arrested for rape

A 31-year-old Ghanaian has been arrested in Bonn, Germany for allegedly raping a woman at knife point.

Local media in Germany reported that the victim was raped while her boyfriend watched.

According to police the 23-year-old female and her partner were approached by the suspect who is seeking asylum, on April 2 at the Siegaue Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Bonn during a camping.

The Ghanaian asylum seeker was reported to be wielding machete and threatened the couple before raping the young woman near their tent.

The police were called by the victim’s boyfriend after the incident. The young woman was then taken to hospital.

The Ghanaian national whose name was not given was arrested on Saturday in nearby Siegburg following a tip-off.

DNA testing matched the suspect to the crime scene.

Police spokesman Robert Scholten is quoted as saying “Apart from the rape itself, we also found lots of DNA samples at the scene, which clearly belong to the detained person.”
