Local media in Ghana are reporting that the government of Jordan has suspended the recruitment of domestic workers from that country.

These workers according to Starr FM tested positive for HIV/AIDS and are considered threat to public safety.

A spokesperson for Jordan’s health ministry Hatem Azrui is quoted to have told the Jordan Times that the decision is to protect the public and households hiring such domestic workers.

“They were tested in Ghana before coming to Jordan. They brought health certificates with them proving that they are free from HIV and other diseases, but we conducted our own tests to make sure,” Azrui reportedly told the media.

He added that “We are in the process of looking into accrediting some certified labs in Ghana to conduct the required tests for domestic helpers wishing to come to Jordan”.
