Oil tanker drivers in Nigeria have announced their decision to go on strike on Monday. They are agitating over poor working conditions and roads.
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) said the drivers are prepared to cut off supply unless their demands are met.
Reuters quoted Cogent Ojobo, a regional chairman for NUPENG as saying “Tanker drivers across the country will not work tomorrow so there is bound to be scarcity of petrol, diesel and kerosene,”
Discussions between NUPENG and the Nigerian government has not been able to stop the strike.
“They are protesting against the federal government because of poor remuneration, bad roads that wear out their vehicles fast and other matters,” Ojobo said.
The union has also refused to announce when this strike will end signaling that petrol stations could join the strike soon.
