The Gambia officially has a vice president and the position has been occupied by Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang who was appointed by President Adama Barrow months ago.
President Barrow, appointed Fatoumata as his vice-president in January this year after taking over as leader of the West African nation but the appointment become problematic due to the age of Madam Fatoumata.
The constitution of The Gambia disqualified individuals older than 65 years from holding the position of vice president and Jallow-Tambajang was 68 when she was appointed in January.
In March this year The Gambia’s parliament voted to remove the age limit placed on persons seeking to become President and Vice-president.
On Thursday President Barrow wrote on his twitter account that saying “ Congratulations to #Gambia new V.P Mrs. Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, a woman with wealth of experience highly required for rebuilding #NewGambia.

Jallow-Tambajang had served as Minister of Health and Social Welfare under former president Yahya Jammeh. She is a former United Nations Development Program staffer.
She was the first to publicly announce that Mr. Jammeh will be prosecuted for crimes committed during his tenure.
Jallow-Tambajang played a vital role in the formation of the coalition that defeated Mr. Jammeh in last year’s presidential elections.
