A musician in Ugandan has been arrested for allegedly ‘insulting’ and ‘disturbing’ the peace of the President of the country Yoweri Museveni.

David Mugema who is 31 was arrested together with his producer Jonah Muwanguzi who is 23.

They have been detained after appearing in court in the capital Kampala on Tuesday.

The two men are accused of putting out offensive communication against Mr Museveni in a song.

According to state prosecutors the two men composed and recorded a song in which they attacked and disturbed the peace of President Museveni.

The prosecutors said the distribution of the said offensive song occurred between 2015 and 2017.

The two men have however denied the charges but were denied a bail application by their lawyer Abdullah Kiwanuka.

The Daily Monitor quoted the judge saying that “Hearing this bail application without a prosecutor may occasion injustice since they will not be heard to tell us the state of the inquiries in the case.”
