The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday offered to help Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo Addo fight corruption in his country, but that offered has been ridiculed by Nigerians and other Africans.
President Buhari told a gathering of Ghanaians at the country’s 61st Independence day anniversary celebration in Accra that “I congratulate you on your efforts to fight corruption which has eaten into the public fibre…Your Excellency I can assure you that you have a good partner in me in tackling endemic corruption”
Nigeria is ranked lower than Ghana when it comes to Corruption Perception Index conducted by the Transparency International every year.
Nigeria, in the latest ratings ranked at 148 out of 180 on Corruption Perceptions Index for 2017, while Ghana which Nigeria’s President offered to help fight corruption placed 81 out of 180.
Nigeria was in the news recently after the citizens were shocked by a revelation from a sales clerk who claimed $100,000 had been swallowed by a snake.
The sales clerk who has been suspended after making this claim to auditors was working with the Nigerian examination board in charge of collection of exam fees, an action that portrays Nigeria as one of the countries struggling to deal with corruption.
