The Cape Town train station has been set ablaze after several train carriages caught fire on Saturday.
Local media reports that two platforms were badly affected by the fire.
A thick black cloud could be seen billowing around the station close to the city centre, News24 reports.
Officials are unable to tell what caused the fire and how many people sustained injuries.
A passenger Robson Chintengo is quoted by News24 as saying that the train was about to take off when the fire started.
“I didn’t see how the fire started but the train was about to leave and then it stopped. That is when we realised there was fire,” Chintengo said.
The passenger also said that “The fire affected two trains because they were next to each other. It was really bad and I was shocked.
“The security at the station managed to escort everyone out of the station”.
City of Cape Town fire and rescue spokesperson Theo Layne told local media that “We had four fire engines and two water tankers currently on the scene fighting the blaze.
