South African cities are the wealthiest in Africa

South African cities dominate the latest list of Africa’s most wealthiest cities. The list was put together in a report by New World Wealth and AfrAsia Bank in Mauritius.

South African cities namely Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg were named among Africa’s six wealthiest cities according to the report.

Kenya’s Nairobi is the only east African city to feature among the six cities rated. Nigeria’s Lagos city also featured on the list.

Egypt’s Cairo was the only north African city to feature as well. The six cities are, Durban, Cape Town, Cairo, Lagos, Johannesburg and Nairobi.

Many of these cities recorded significant growth from financial services, retail, tourism, fast moving consumer goods, telecoms, real estate and construction.

Meanwhile a recent survey carried out showed that African cities dominated list of least liveable cities in the world.

The survey conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) ranked 140 cities on factors, including political and social stability, crime, education and access to healthcare.

The Nigerian city of Lagos for instance was among the top list of least liveable cities.
