Officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo say a mine accident has killed at least 30 people in the eastern part of the country.

AFP news agency reports that the accident was caused by a landslide.

Although the mine collapse occurred a week ago, miners have been trapped inside the gold mine for days.

The informal gold mine is located in Misisi, South Kivu province of DR Congo.

A local official Aime Mutipula is quoted by AFP as saying that “Proper searches only began today [Thursday].”
