Mobile Money service boosts MTN Ghana revenue

MTN Group has said that its Ghana unit’s third quarter revenue grew around 23 percent. This was largely due to its mobile money service MoMo.

The company said on Friday that revenue in Ghana for nine months ending 30 September 2018 rose to $731.90 million (3.54 billion Ghanaian cedi).

That figure rose from some $410 million (2.49 billion Ghanaian cedi) during the same period a year ago.

Reuters reports that during the quarter, MTN Ghana’s service revenue grew by 22.9 percent, its data revenue increased by 30.9 percent.

The company’s digital revenue also rose by 28 percent the same period largely driven by Mobile Money.

Mobile Money also called MoMo in Ghana allows money transfer and payments using a mobile phone.

It is very popular among Ghanaians and parts of Africa.
