Seychelles has been ranked number one on the African continent in the 2019 Henley Passport Index.
The index looks at passports of 199 countries globally. It is the most authoritative passport index with historical data spanning for about fourteen years.
It is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information.
The report also ranked Seychelles 27th globally with the country’s access to Visa free destinations at 151. Mauritius came 2nd followed by South Africa 3rd, Botswana 4th and Namibia at the 5th position.
The following countries namely Somalia, Eritrea, Sudan, Libya and Ethiopia were the bottom five performers.
The latest report suggests that the African continent continues to lag behind the rest of the world.
But the continent is moving in the right direction in terms of enhancing Visa openness.
The report says over the past year several countries in Africa notably Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia and Senegal relaxed visa requirements with the intention of enhancing trade co- operation and security.
The report however ranked Japan as the number one country in the latest index globally.
