Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday returned home from his recent trip to the UK for holidays.
Buhari’s aircraft touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 6.25pm local time.
There have been concerns about the President’s trip and the impact of his absence on the country.
No reasons were given for Buhari’s trip but he has often visited London for medical check up.
He had in the past struggled with his health requiring serious medical attention in the early parts of his presidency.
On Sunday, the presidency criticized the media and opposition parties that insinuated that President Buhari had traveled to the UK for a medical check up.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement described claims of a medical check up as “falsehood.”
Adesina wrote, “Some reckless online media, irresponsible political opposition, and other bilious groups and individuals, had gone on overdrive since the President left the country on April 25, insinuating that he was going for hospitalisation, and would not return after 10 days as stated. In their vain imaginations, they even stated that fictive doctors have advised President Buhari to stay longer for more intensive care.”
He adds that “Now that the President has returned, can these apostles of evil imagining swallow their words? Can they retract their tendentious stories as well as press statements, and apologise to millions of Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora that they have fed with hogwash?”
Nigeria’s presidency had earlier said that President Buhari “could govern the country from anywhere in the world.”
