It was traumatic for some worshipers in Kenyan town of Mombasa when a local preacher stabbed his estranged wife and killed himself at the pulpit.

Local media reported that the incident occurred on Sunday in a church the preacher and his wife co-founded.

Daily Nation reported that the couple separated and were engaged in a quarrel over who should be in charge of the church.

Worshipers said the preacher, Elisha Misiko, 55 sat in front of the church and then walked over to his wife Ann Mghoi who was at the pulpit and stabbed her.

Misiko used knives hidden under his shirt to stab his wife and then stabbed himself in the stomach and slit his throat as congregants rushed to the pulpit.

An eye witness revealed that the preacher “moved stealthily towards his wife and stabbed her in the back. When he tried to slit her throat, she blocked him, injuring her hand.”

Local media reported that the preacher of the Ground for God’s Gospel Ministries at Chembani in Bamburi died on the spot while his wife died in hospital.

Daily Nation quoted a village elder Mtengo Amuri saying “The two had been running the church for more than eight years but, in the last few months, they differed over management.”
