A minister of one of Somalia’s autonomous states has died after contracting coronavirus.

Khalif Mumin Tohow was the justice minister of Somalia’s Hirshabelle state. He was also Hirshabelle’s state legislator.

Somali officials said he died just a day after he tested positive for the virus, bringing the total death toll from the virus to two in the country.

The first patient who died was a 58-year-old man. Somalia has 21 confirmed coronavirus cases but many of them are government employees.

Tohow tested positive for Covid-19 in Hirshabelle’s administrative capital town of Jowhar on Saturday but died on Sunday in Mogadishu’s Martini hospital.
