Ghanaians are still awaiting results from Monday presidential and parliamentary elections as votes continue to be counted and collated.

The ruling New Patriotic Patriotic and the opposition National Democratic Congress are both claiming to be leading.

But the electoral commission is yet to announced any results for the presidential elections after promising to declare results within 24 hours.

Local media though have been announcing results of the parliamentary elections with reports of the opposition making significant gains in some areas original held by the ruling party.

Over 17 million voters registered to cast their ballot in the elections with two the two leading candidates being the incumbent, Nana Akufo-Addo and opposition leader, the former leader, John Mahama.

If there is no outright winner for the presidential election there would be a run-off later this month.
