A name of a Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar is trending on social media platforms in Ghana as President Akufo Addo faces backlash for unveiling his statue.
The statue was unveiled at the Efia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Ghana’s Western Region during a recent tour of the area by Nana Akufo Addo.
The Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah has defended the initiative, saying it was meant to honour the President for his developmental projects in the region.
But the decision has not gone down well with many as they take to social media to criticize it.
Whereas some Ghanaian has described it was wasteful considering the economic conditions in the West African country, others are questioning the timing since the renovation work on the hospital and other projects initiated in the region have not been completed.
On X formerly (twitter), Nebuchadnezzar is trending as critics of the President draw a parallels with the Babylonian king who erected his statue and commanded people to worship it.
Nana Addo’s statute at the hospital has the potential of increasing people’s BP leading to their early demise.
It should be pulled down as a matter of urgency. What is this? pic.twitter.com/lWt9egLlox
