Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa has rejected claims that former first lady, Grace Mugabe will be his running mate.
The leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance is reported to be considering the partnership idea with Grace Mugabe.
Where from the idea?
The partnership idea was made by the newly formed opposition party National Patriotic Front. The party is reportedly supported by former President Robert Mugabe.
One of the party’s spokesperson, Jim Kunaka at a news conference last week claimed that Grace wanted to be vice president of the MDC Alliance.
Standard newspaper however reports that Chamisa considers as “unthinkable for Grace to be his deputy”.
Chamisa is quoted as saying that “Whoever wants to join us is welcome, our bus doesn’t get full but there is no way one can join a church and become a deacon the same day”.
Zimbabwe Elections
Zimbabwe is holding elections next month and the July 30 elections would be the first in a post-Mugabe era.
The 94 year old leader resigned from power in 2017 after a brief military takeover, ushering Emmerson Mnangagwa into power.
President Mnangagwa has made a bold claim recently that he and his Zanu-PF party will remain in power after the elections.
Mnangagwa leads the Zanu-PF into the elections and his strongest challenge comes from, Nelson Chamisa who is 40.
