Scientists say their study showed that some patients who recovered from Coronavirus have reduced lung function.

All over the world, over 86,000 people have recovered from COVID-19 which is a respiratory illness.

That is good news because they fought the battle to stay alive and that gives hope but they would not be the same again.

When coronavirus affects the lower respiratory tract, most patients infected exhibit a dry cough, shortness of breath or pneumonia.

It is still not clear how those who recovered are doing in terms of full healthy functionality but Chinese researchers say those who recovered can be left with damaged lungs.

According to the scientists computer tomography showed fluid filled sacs in the lungs of Covid-9 patients.

Researchers in Hong Kong say a small study of 12 patients who were discharged from hospital showed that two or three had reduced lung function.

There are no indications what this might mean for the long-term.

“In some patients, lung function could decline by about 20 to 30% after recovery,” Dr. Owen Tsang Tak-yin, medical director of the Infectious Diseases Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital in Hong Kong said.

But many virologists say recovered COVID-19 patients are immune to the new SARS-CoV-2 virus after the infection has run its course.

This is because the body’s own immune system produced antibodies during the infection that render the pathogen harmless.
