Ghanaian officials say one person died after parts of the capital, Accra got flooded on Tuesday from overnight rainfall.

Efforts are still ongoing to rescue other victims of the flood by a joint team of military and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

So far about 20 persons have also been rescued by officials, according to local media reporting.

Several properties belonging to residents and traders have been destroyed in the flood.

Ghana‘s Meteorological Agency has also warned that there would more rains on Tuesday, expected to hit the eastern and coastal areas of the country.

Often the Ghanaian capital Accra gets flooded during heavy downpour due to poor drainage systems.

Five years ago, over 100 people died around the same area that was most hit by this week’s floods when a fuel station exploded due to floods.
