Uganda’s Incumbent president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni now has major lead in the presidential election.
Provisional results announced by the Electoral Commission on Saturday showed that Museveni has 5,303,831 votes of the 9,100,865 valid votes collated so far.
That represents 58.83 percent compared to his main rival, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine who so far has 3,119,965 votes representing 34.62 percent of the votes.
It is the first time Museveni’s percentage of vote count has fallen below 60 percent since tallying commenced on Thursday.
More results are expected to be announced later on Saturday but Bobi Wine has alleged widespread fraud and rejected the results.
He told journalists on Friday that “I am very confident that we defeated the dictator by far. I call upon all Ugandans to reject the blackmail. We have certainly won the election and we’ve won it by far.”
“Whatever is being declared is a complete sham, we reject it and we dissociate ourselves with it.”
He had written on Twitter earlier that “despite the wide spread fraud and violence experienced across the country earlier today, the picture still looks good.”
Hello Uganda! Despite the wide spread fraud and violence experienced across the country earlier today, the picture still looks good. Thank you Uganda for turning up and voting in record numbers. The challenge now is for Mr. Byabakama and the EC to declare the will of the Pple.
