Algerian and Leicester City’s winger Riyad Mahrez, is the only African player included in this year’s Fifa 23-man player of the year shortlist.
Mahrez who helped Leicester City to win the English premiership title last season will be going up against players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
A shortlist of 23 players was drawn up by experts from the FIFA Football Committee.
A winner will be named on January 9.
Mahrez is also on the Ballon D’Or shortlist along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon.
