The death sentence of the former Egyptian President, Mohammed Morsi has been over turned by an Appeals court.
A judicial official told the AFP that the Court of Cassation ordered that Mr. Morsi be retried on the charges of participating in prison breaks and violence against policemen during the 2011 uprising which toppled longtime president Hosni Mubarak.
The court also ordered that five co-defendants, including the supreme guide of the now outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badie, be retried.
Mr. Morsi was elected president in 2012, but ousted by the military after street protests against his rule in 2013.
Morsi was sentenced to life in prison for terrorism offences separately. His death sentences were approved this year by Egypt’s highest religious authority.
