The President of the Gambia Adama Barrow will be visiting some key countries in West Africa to thank them for helping him get into power.

The presidency in the Gambia said Mr. Barrow will start his tour of these countries on Wednesday by first visiting Sierra Leone.

Ghana, Liberia and Nigeria are the other countries Mr. Barrow will be visiting. The Gambian President has already traveled to Senegal where he sought refuge when former leader, Yahya Jammeh refused to step down.

Leaders of the regional bloc ECOWAS were instrumental in forcing Mr. Jammeh into exile in Equatorial Guinea after denouncing him and asking him to respect the outcome of last year’s election which was won by current President Adama Barrow.

Troops from Ghana, Senegal and Nigeria were deployed to coerce Mr. Jammeh to step down.
