The International Criminal Court at The Hague will be launching a probe into all crimes committed against citizens after securing the mandate to do so.

Prosecutors will open a full investigation into alleged crimes against humanity in the country despite leaving the ICC.

On Thursday Judges said there was a basis to investigate murders and torture and all other crimes allegedly committed by government and other groups.

The investigations will be conducted over the period Burundi was a member of the ICC.
