Nigeria: Woman arrested for selling her twin babies for $980

Nigerian security officials have arrested a woman who attempted selling her own one-month-old twin girls.

Police have charged the woman with child trafficking and could prefer further charges against her.

The woman aged 30 was apprehended while attempting to sell the babies for $980.

The buyer of the twin babies reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the woman.

The incident happened in Nigeria’s northern city of Katsina.

According to the Guardian newspaper in Nigeria, the woman claimed during interrogation to have attempted selling her babies due to “economic challenges”.

Child trafficking is a major issue in Nigeria with security agencies launching major operations to curtail the menace.
