Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has filed formal complaint with the country’s criminal investigations department of the police service calling for a probe into Ghana’s football association boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
Kwesi Nyantakyi who also works with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and world governing body Fifa in different capacities is accused of engaging in fraudulent acts using the President’s name.
On Tuesday the President’s deputy chief of staff Samuel Abu Jinapor told reporters in Accra that Nyantakyi is seen and heard on video using the President’s name and other senior government officials to induce “potential investors” to part with money.

The said video capturing Nyantakyi’s alleged act is the work of celebrated Ghanaian undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
“The president after consultations is fully satisfied that a prima facie basis has been established for criminal investigations to be launched into the conduct of the president of the football association,” Jinapor said to journalists.
Jinapor said “If anyone is found culpable he will face the full rigors of the law”.
Nyantakyi who as at Tuesday was out of Ghana for official duties is expected to be invited by the police for further investigations.
He is also a member of the FIFA Organising Committee for Olympic Football and an executive committee member at the Confederation of African Football.
Ghana’s football association which Nyantakyi heads has been accused in the past of doing little to deal with perceived corruption.
