Zimbabwe’s opposition MPs on Tuesday walked out of the state of the nation address presented by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to parliament.
The opposition MPs led by MDC leader Nelson Chamisa heckled Mnangagwa when he started making his presentation before walking out.
The boycott shows how divided Zimbabwe still remains after the Presidential elections in July which the opposition lost.
Mnangagwa in his speech said “The election period is decisively behind us. It is now time for us as members of parliament and political leaders to exert our efforts towards delivering promises we made to the electorate.”
Nelson Chamisa challenged the July election results in court and lost after the constitutional court upheld Mnangagwa’s election victory.
This is the first time President Mnangagwa is making his state of the nation address after his swearing in following his election victory.

Zimbabwe is currently battling to contain a surging cholera outbreak outbreak. The country’s economy is also in crisis.
President Mnangagwa promised to address these challenges calling for support from citizens.
