The US says its air strikes in Somalia have killed some 37 militants fighting for the Islamist group Al-Shabaab.

The US military said on Tuesday in a statement that two air strikes were carried out Monday near Debatscile.

According to the US military’s Africa command the “air strikes did not injure or kill any civilians.”

27 militants were killed in the first strike while the second strike killed additional 10 fighters, the statement said.

The Somali government which has been struggling to deal with the threats from the militant group supported the American operation.
