Ghana has announced a lockdown in parts of the country to help fight the spread of the coronavirus beginning Monday.

President Nana Akufo Addo on Friday evening said areas in the capital Accra, Kumasi and Tema will remain lockdown for the next two weeks.

He said essential service providers such as utility service companies and health workers are those to be exempted from the lockdown.

Residents in areas affected however would be allowed only to go out to transact business in the banks, buy food and also use the public toilets.

President Akufo Addo however encouraged citizens to bare with the government during the two week period of the lockdown.
