Uganda’s Health Ministry has raised an alarm over sexual activities among some citizens being quarantined for COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has described the development as worrying as it could spread the disease among the risky group.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Diana Atwine who made the revelation on Radio One talk show said they were greatly concerned that the practice would jeopardize the government’s efforts to curb the spread of the disease.
“Ugandans are not serious. Some who are in quarantine have even begun having (sexual) affairs. They move to rooms of others in the hotels where we have placed them.
Others like in Mulago move from their rooms to visit their colleagues who are in other rooms, this is too dangerous and it will distract our efforts,” said Atwiine.
Deployment of security
In a bid to stop the practice Daiana Atwiine said security officers have been deployed to limit movements within quarantine centres.
The Ministry of Health has gazetted 17 places to be used as isolation centres for those undergoing COVID-19 mandatory quarantine.
The areas which include hotels, hospitals, lodges and universities are currently accommodating over 232 people under quarantine.
The Health ministry has given 14 days for the targeted people to remain in quarantine so that they keep them from spreading the disease.
But it has delayed the release of some of the detainees because of the concern over sexual activities at the quarantine centres.
Uganda has recorded 54 cases of Covid19 cases with 7 recoveries.
