217 Cuban health practitioners on Monday morning landed in South Africa via a chartered flight to assist the country’s efforts at curbing the spread of COVID-19.

South Africa as a single country has more Covid-19 cases than any other African nation with rate of increase not slowing.

The Cuban doctors from various fields of specialization will in the coming days help South Africa tame the spread of the virus.

The African nation said the Cuban doctors will be working alongside South African doctors.

International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor said “We asked the government of Cuba to send a multidisciplinary team of experts and health professionals. These men and women are to work alongside South African health professionals.”
