North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un has appeared in public for the first time in 20 days, according to North Korean state media.

There have been several reports last month claiming Jong-un had died but that was dismissed quickly by South Korea.

“Our government position is firm,” Moon Chung-in, the top foreign policy adviser to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, told CNN.

The official added that “Kim Jong Un is alive and well. He has been staying in the Wonsan area since April 13. No suspicious movements have so far been detected.”

The North Korean leader had not been seen in public for days, something that gave life to the rumors about his health and whereabouts.

KCNA news agency has now reported that the North Korean leader cut the ribbon at the opening of a fertiliser factory.

People at the factory reportedly “broke into thunderous cheers of hurrah” when Jong-un appeared.

This is his first reported appearance since 11 April when he attended a Workers’ Party Politburo meeting.

North Korea is well known for tightly controlling any information surrounding Jong-un.

The only means of knowing much about happenings in North Korea is by scanning state media.
