Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has won reelection in the just ended presidential election and is set to extend his presidency into a seventh term.
He won by a landslide securing 71.65 percent of votes while his closest contender, Bobi Wine secured 24.72 percent, the chief of the electoral commission said on Saturday.
Museveni, now 81, came to power in 1986 as a rebel leader and has since gone on to strengthen his hold on power.
Bobi Wine who has said in a statement that he had fled to safety has rejected the results and asked Ugandans to do same.
Wine has called on Ugandans to hold non-violent protests. He also claims over 20 people died during the election.
The authorities though have so far confirmed seven deaths.
But the election was held under an internet shutdown that disrupted the live of many Ugandans.
The Ugandan government justified the shutdown saying it was necessary to prevent misinformation, fraud and the incitement of violence.
