Lecturers at Kenya’s Public Universities on Wednesday staged street protest across the country demanding better salaries and improved working conditions.
The government has been unsuccessful in talking down the lecturers from staging the protest after negotiations broke down.
Teaching and learning activities at some 31 public universities in Kenya according to local media have not taken place for a semester now due to the current impasse over the salaries of these lecturers.

In 2017, Kenya was hit by a major strike by two unions, the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya University Staff Union (KASU).
The lecturers at the time embarked on an indefinite strike demanding better salaries with the lecturers many of whom are Professors wanting a 400 percent pay increase to bring them into line with Kenyan lawmakers.
