Equatorial Guinea has announced an amnesty for all political prisoners in the west African nation.
The general amnesty for these prisoners by the President was announced on national television.
There have been several demands from political parties in the past for political prisoners to be released from detention.
The demand by the opposition parties was a major condition to enable them partake in a national dialogue.
President Teodoro Obiang Nguema is hoping his decree could open the doors for these parties to join his national dialogue.
Mr Obiang who came into power in a coup in 1979 has been waging a war against people he claims are plotting to overthrow him.
This year, Equatorial Guinea’s main opposition party Citizens for Innovation was dissolved.
21 members of the party were jailed as punishment for allegations of plotting a coup.
Obiang recently pardoned one Simon Mann accused of attempting to overthrow the government 14 years ago. He was jailed 34 years in prison for the crime.
